Rio Ferdinand - England Captain

Rio Ferdinand has been named by manager Fabio Capello as the England captain for Wednesday nights friendly match against France.

Chelsea defender John Terry, previous captain under Steve McClaren, was expected to have been chosen for the title.

The 29 year old Manchester United captain expressed his delight at the decision.

"As a kid you grow up wanting to play for England and lead your country out and I've been given that honour of being able to fulfil those dreams."

Manager, Fabio Capello, insisted that Rio's uncertain past was not an issue.
