Bonhomme Determined To Get Result

Paul Bonhomme, Britain's chance at winning the Red Bull World Series Championship, is determined not to let this years lead out of his hands after not getting the result last year.

Bonhomme finished second in the last race at Detroit, beaten by the American Kirby Chambliss. However, he still managed to widen his lead at the top of the leader board with five points, and is now standing at 26 points in total.


Last years champion Mike Mangold was trailing by 3 points before Detroit and only picked up 6 points there in the last race. Mangold, Chambliss and Austria’s Hannes Arch now all have 21 points each.

Bonhomme insists that he gets no special pleasure from beating Mangold - his arch rival after stealing the Championship from him in 2007.

At the moment, the championship could go to anyone. A five point lead could easily evaporate with just one bad race due to two reasons:

- Wins are now worth 9 points
- A new system, TVSS, has been introduced. This means that penalty points and disqualifications are more likely due to the more systematic use of instant replays to crack down on violations.

Bonhomme says; "This is definitely not the time to feel comfortable."

"I’m not dwelling on last year’s results," Bonhomme said. "I’m purely looking forward to this year. I think my flying has improved and Wade’s (Paul's engineer) work on the plane is, as usual, working extremely well. We are well prepared and are looking forward to the next stage on the racing calendar."

The Red Bull World Series Championships starts it's Europe leg in Rotterdam on the 19th and 20th July.
